There was already a huge buzz about the teaser and fans were anticipating to see the Prabhas comeback after Radhe Shyam debacle. Director Om Raut was elated to announce the teaser release date 2nd October . There was a planned event in Ayodhya on the banks of Saryu River and lead starcast Prabhas and Kriti Senon was present along with director Om Raut and producer Bhushan Kumar.
Finally, The film Adipurush teaser was launched on T-Series official channel which got record breaking response garnering 70 million plus views and 1 million likes on YouTube in 24 hours. It’s not just been trending since it’s release but also receiving alot of criticism and trolling because of its characters look and VFX. After looking the teaser neitzens are sharing angry reactions on VFX and CGI work in the teaser. Many people are calling it cheap quality or cartoon type VFX which they used to see in early 2000. The Biggest controversy is surrounding Saif Ali Khan look as Raavan. People are criticizing it and calling it an attempt to give Lankesh Raavan an islamic look. Fans tweeted that Raavan looks like a Mughal emperor with a buzz cut and long beard. Even his pushpak viman is shown as dragon which is not image people were expecting.
Similarly Lord Hanuman and Lord Ram are shown wearing leather dresses which is not going well with the audience. Hanuman portrayal also grabbed eyeballs because of no moustache. MP Home minister Narottam Mishra has already written a letter to movie director OM Raut to remove all the objectionable scenes. He also talked about taking legal action if mistakes are not corrected. UP deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya also said that films should not hurt religious sentiments and it needs to be corrected before the release. Even Vanar Sena fighting scenes are called copied from Hollywood movies.
As Lord Ram and Ramayan are matter of faith and part of Hindu civilization, any wrong portrayal would backfire and receive backlash. However, so much protest and boycott calls are definitely giving this movie good amount of publicity. After so many negative comments Om Raut revealed that he is disheartened by the reactions but still confident that it will be different experience in 3D and audience will like it . He also added that he has to release the teaser on YouTube to just to reach larger audience otherwise he didn’t want to show it on YouTube.
Eventually director could have been taken caution before representing Ramayan as it’s one of the most important part of Hindu civilization. He could have avoided unnecessary creative freedom in choosing looks, sets and characters so it looks more realistic and truthful to which Indian have seen.
